Hello there, after a while unpublishing i'm back with another article concerning cars & environment, but not energy wise this time... A quite surprising, for one not asking himself, initiative from farmers in one french region : they measured the collect of garbage they gathered around their fields on the small national roads : 1 ton of everything you can imagine in just one of our 90 departements (regional area equivalent to county). This is a creation of former Volkswagen advanced design studio. I worked some with this guys on this concept, it was initially the idea of the 1€ car : paid by the medias you could fit in, the mairies that would lend them in a "autolib" system just by the bycicles and environmental state credits. Here's an interesting interview of an old designer, having a rather clear idea of what is design. In my sens this is more talking of communication-graphic design. juste un lien vers un article, qui, une fois de plus , m'a fait m'insurger contre ce gouvernement, qui veux faire bouger les choses, mais dans quel sens ? Le CNRS institution réputée pour son intégrité dans la recherche fondamentale, a failli, et est encore en danger, être démantelée. La volonté du ministère est de le découper en secteurs pour une meilleure affiliation aux entreprises, avec à la tête de chaque département, un membre du parti ! On se croirait dans un scénario à la big brother... Je parlais d'intégrité, et ce qui la définie je pense c'est le détachement de la recherche d'un principe mercantile et sa neutralité politique (les deux étant curieusement liés). Sinon on retombe dans l'horreur, exemple des lobbi des groupes pharmaceutiques. Is it time for appple to stop making us dream of something that we dont need anymore ? Or how the sleak design doesn't mean anything more than trend now. For long apple have had a reputation of a firm doing computers integraly, and with integrity (from the hardware to the software by cool designers ;p), which made its growing success. Somehow, one could say that Steve Jobs (CEO and creator of Apple) has wone the battle against Bill Gates (CEO and creator of Microsoft), once his friend and co-nerd developper, than his worst enemy. Eventhough Microsoft owns 20% of Apple since 1996 (for more info about the story, see the movie "pirates of the silicon valley"), they've been able to keep on track : doing the products considering the good use of it (user experience first !). One of the reason today sells on portable computers are 50% for Apple and up to 15% on desktop computers, compared to only 5% of the market all in all before... ! Hello everybody, here's a simple observation everybody can make today. When you watch a mass media, whatsoever, you can observe mainly 2 things : _ news about catastrophies, or personal scandals. Always a good seller...! _ news about products and the way they influence our society, how consummerism becomes fancy. Here's the simple, maybe naïve and certainly not new, proposition I make : the focus should now be made on how : _ products help our lifes to be more simple , more full and constructive (meaning a totally different range of products to be presented). "Non products" or DIY should be a rubric of everyday news too (how to recycle and stuff like that) . _ some people or organisation acts influenced local or international evolution of our society. Concrete solutions for actual issues. Personnal and communitarian success stories... Hey green buddies, here's an interesting video (in french though)... It's all about adding a patch system to your regular car engine. It uses heat from engine to boil water and run vapor in exhaust gazes to clean them up, and then bring that charged vapor back in the air admission so that it burns again in the cylindre ! Results are stunning, in an homemade engine : -20% gazoline consommation, 1% against 8,6% C02 emmissions, and 10% performance augmentation ! Why car builders don't generalise and optimise this system ? A good question, maybe loobiing can give us a hint... Although it's not a sustainable solution, it is a very efficient short term solution.
